About

Sorrenberg is a 2.5 hectare vineyard which is owned by Barry and Jan Morey and situated on the outskirts of Beechworth. It is surrounded by forest on two sides and Stony Creek runs across the back boundary.

Sorrenberg Vineyard was established in 1984. It is a 3 hectare vineyard at an elevation of 560 meters.

Although the vineyard is granitic it does have the advantage of being on the border where the granite meets the red mudstone, giving the soil greater water holding capacity and the wine structure.

The finesse and elegance of Sorrenberg wines can be attributed to the fact that it is one of the highest vineyards on granite soil in the Beechworth region. The varieties grown are Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Gamay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and small amounts of Cabernet Franc and Merlot.

The Rhino block named after Barry’s grandfathers vineyard was established in 2005 by Sorrenberg vineyard at an elevation of 595 meters. This is a dry grown block on granite soils. Varieties planted are Chardonnay and Gamay.

Both Sorrenberg vineyard and Rhino are certified biodynamic.
